The Misuse of Power is a poem that welled up and out of me right at the start of the pandemic after the deaths of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor. It is a poem deconstructing my own whiteness and privilege and the diluted HIStory most of are raised on in the public school system. It is also an invocation of ancestral remembrance– honoring and reclaiming the spirit of raw primal wisdom that courses through ALL of our veins across race, gender, ability, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, and beyond timelines. My prayer is that a remembrance and awakening of our tremendous internal POWER is sparked in all those who choose to listen.
